How to Reach:
From Kalyan, take any bus going towards Malshej ghat. After crossing Murbad, you will pass a village known as Vaishakhare. You would see the Nana’s thumb on your right side while passing through Malshej Ghat. From here its about 4 kms on the right side if you are coming from Kalyan. You would see a board which signals the entry point of Naneghat.
The name nane means “coin” and ghat means “pass”. The name is given because this mountain pass was used as a tollbooth to collect toll from traders crossing the hills.
Initial part of the trek is a walk. After walking for about 30 mins you will come across a plateau. The incline starts from here. The Route is very well defined with arrows right from the base upto the summit. One should take approx 3 hrs to reach Naneghat from the base. At the entrance of the pass, there is a stone made vessel, where all the coins were put.
The Nana’s thumb is very famous for rock climbing/rappelling. From the top of Nana’s thumb, you will get a glimpse of the famous Konkan Kada.
