Kondana CavesGrade: 3 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 as Tough

Description of the Route: This is one of the easiest and most enjoyable treks near Mumbai. The only tricky part is the river crossing which one has to cross on foot. On a rainy day the currents can be really powerful, hence if you are going with kids its a good idea to carry a rope.

How to go: From Karjat take a ricksha / bus to Kondivade. There is a place called Van Vihar Lodge from where the trek starts.

This route is fairly simple and one has to cross the tributaries of the Ulhas river a few times to reach this wonderful waterfall.

The beauty of this place is that the waterfall forms a natural curtain to the Buddhist caves. This is in the route of Rajmachi and there is a route from here that connects to the Buddhist Caves in the Karla Region of Lonavala.

Food is available at Van Vihar Lodge. Though slightly expensive for the standards of the forest the food is homely and cooked in clean environment. This lodge also has facilities to stay (Dormitory as well as Rooms

Duration of Trek : Around one and a half hours to the cave
