Manikgad

Grade: 6 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 as Tough

How to Reach: There are two routes to go to the top. Both the routes are confusing and its better to have a local guide with you if you are going for the first time. The routes start from Talavli or Vashivli. Both these places can be accessed from Panvel or Karjat. From Panvel take a ricksha to Vashivli / Vadgaon or Talavli.

Talavli: the route from Talavli is confusing and quite steep. Its a nice thrilling walk with a wonderful view. This route is also much shorter than the one from Vadgaon.

Vashivli / Vadgaon: Again a confusing route and advisable to take a local guide along with you.

The route is long and there is no shade on the route till you can see the fort to your left and the climb starts. Thus most of the time you are exposed to the sun and as a result it can get very tiring. Carry lots of water as there is nothing available on the way.

There is no shelter at the top and the only relic there is a small dilapidated Shiv Temple. The view from the top though is breathtaking. The best time of the year to visit this place is just after the monsoons.

On the way from Vadgaon the view of the Savna Lake to your right is enjoyable.

Duration: Around 4 and a half hours from Vadgaon and 3 hours from Talavli
